The "Touch of calm: a sensory world for children" project has been implemented by our organization since the beginning of 2023. Our sensory room serves children who struggle to concentrate, experience intense emotions, or face difficulties in learning and communication. Through sensory integration and neurocorrection sessions, not only behavior changes – the quality of a child's life changes. They begin to understand themselves better, interact more easily with others, and feel more confident in everyday situations.

A sensory room is more than just a space for classes. It is a place where a child first feels: they are accepted as they are. Without pressure, without judgment – with care, support, and belief in their potential. Importantly, all sessions are free of charge. Today, when so many children are growing up under stress, such spaces are becoming vitally important. They provide a sense of safety, stability, and inner grounding.

Our sensory room is already up and running, helping children every day: on average, up to 20 children visit each week. Sessions are held twice a week in a group format lasting up to 1 hour, as well as individual sessions lasting up to 45 minutes. This format combines socialization in a group setting with deeper individual corrective work. Sessions are conducted both individually and in small groups, making it possible to address each child's needs as fully as possible. Through movement, play, and sensory experience, children learn to understand themselves and the world around them. Step by step, they learn to concentrate, manage emotions, overcome anxiety, and open up to interaction. For some, this is a journey from chaos to calm; for others – from withdrawal to trust, from fear to confidence.

Children aged 2 to 8 participate in the sessions. These are children with various developmental and adaptation challenges: attention difficulties, hyperactivity, anxiety and emotional instability, learning difficulties, challenges in communicating with peers, and the effects of stress and emotional overload.

The sensory room offers sessions in sensory integration and neurocorrection. Children perform specially selected exercises that include:

- motor activity (balance, coordination, spatial orientation);
- tactile exercises (working with different textures);
- exercises for developing attention, memory, and thinking;
- self-control and inhibition games;
- emotional regulation exercises.

There are many different children's stories from the sensory room that demonstrate real results.

One such case involves a 5-year-old boy who had lost his father in the war. The child displayed impulsive behavior: frequent outbursts, abrupt movements, self-stimulation, and difficulty interacting with adults. Through the sessions, the frequency of impulsive episodes gradually decreased, he began responding better to communication, and developed an ability to concentrate and behave more calmly.

Another case involves a 2-year-old boy who, at the time of referral, did not respond to speech directed at him and did not understand adult instructions. During the sessions, characteristics were noticed that required additional assessment. As a result, the parents consulted specialists and discovered that the child had a hearing impairment. The boy is now receiving the necessary support and continues to attend sessions that help him adapt and develop.

However, due to limited equipment, specialists are currently forced to adapt sessions and partially replace necessary tools with improvised materials. Basic sensory elements, soft modules, a dry pool, and makeshift tools — cereals, fabrics, balls, ropes, and sensory pathways — are used in the work. This allows some exercises to be carried out, but does not provide a full impact on the development of a child's sensory systems. The available resources are not sufficient to support all those who need it.

To expand the support provided, the space needs to be equipped with modern tools: balance elements, sensory panels, and suspension systems.

Your support is not just a contribution to equipment. It is an investment in the calm, development, and future of children who today so need our attention and warmth.
