One oak tree can provide enough oxygen for 11 people, and 1 hectare of oak in 2 hours absorbs carbon dioxide from the breath of 1,000 people. During the year, oak emits 6,000 liters of clean water into the atmosphere, increases the humidity around it by 30% and isolates up to 5 tons of harmful substances from the environment. Agree, every person should plant at least one such tree in their lifetime. 

In fact, anyone can do it - grow a mighty oak from an acorn at home and plant it in the ground. First of all, it will help to understand the process of growing a tree and will encourage people to respect nature. Also, planting and caring for oak seedlings, in addition to the important impact on the environment, will be an element of creative leisure for the whole family. 

Our project "Dubcrossing_UA" is aimed at attracting people to the landscaping of Ukraine and preserving the gene pool of ancient oaks. As part of the project, we plan to remotely send sets of 8 acorns of ancient oaks from nature reserves to all corners of Ukraine, hold a ZOOM meeting, where we will plant acorns with participants, and provide recommendations for their cultivation and care. We will also distribute complete acorn planting kits (pots, soil, acorns and expanded clay) to students of 10 schools. And in the spring of 2022 we will organize the planting of grown seedlings in the open ground. 

In 2019-2020 alone, we managed to distribute more than 300 acorn planting kits, and the germination result is 57%! That is, out of every 8 acorns included in the set, at least 5 sprouted. 

We do not accidentally plant an oak, because it is a symbol of the Cossack spirit, longevity and steadfastness. Oak remembers the person who planted it, so before planting it is worth holding an acorn in your hand, and there is a high probability that it will exist for more than a few centuries, reminding of good human deeds.

At dobro.ua we collect funds for the purchase of pots, soil, expanded clay and craft packages for the design and delivery of sets of oak acorns for the project participants. Video instructions on planting and growing oaks can be found in the "News" section of this project.
