Mongrels will become a deficit
It is in dog’s character to be domestic, which means to have its own house and to serve man. In this pursuit to be closer to people, dogs come to live in the yards of high-rise buildings, and to find food they keep closer to markets, shops and stsnds. Most people look with favour on homeless animals living in the neighbourhood. But so-called "dog's weddings" and birth of puppies by stray dogs cause great discontent, anger and even aggression of people.
It is during those periods homeless animals often become the object of violence of people. Dogs are poisoned and beaten, puppies are often simply killed. And those which survive join the ranks of hungry stray animals. But what is their fault? They are the part of nature around us. And we, people, have to protect animals from cruelty, to learn to live together with them, helping them, rather than to let our anger come out onto those who are weaker than us.
Desexing of stray animals is the only humane way to ensure quiet and peaceful coexistence of people and homeless animals in our cities. Desexed animals can live in the yards under the care of guardians, without causing worries to anybody; they don’t allow other animals to go to this territory and to breed, so their population is kept under control. Desexing is widely used in European countries as the only humane way to regulate the population of homeless animals.
"Dai lapu, drug" ("Give a paw, friend") is the Zaporizhzhia Public Organization for Animal Rights Protection that has a many years' experience in carrying out large-scale campaigns of stray animals desexing. They participated in charitable actions of free desexing which produced tangible results for their city. But this work should be continued constantly, and funds for desexing are sorely lacking. 50 000 UAH should be raised for desexing of 100 dogs.
We ask all those concerned about homeless animals to participate in this project. Together we will make life in our city quieter and more harmonious, and everyone will be happy: both animals, and people! By supporting our project, you give homeless dogs a chance to live!
