Yaroslava is learning to live with diabetes
In May 2024, Yaroslava was admitted to the intensive care unit of the district hospital. Her parents went to the family doctor when the girl began to have alarming symptoms, but the local doctors saw nothing unusual – children of this age drink a lot of water and so on. And in mid-May, Yaroslava “caught” an infection, which was the beginning of her insulin-dependent diabetes, a disease that is currently untreated. Since then, the child and her mother have been trying to “pull themselves together” and learn to live with the disease. Today, Yaroslava's fingers are pierced 15 times a day, and this does not always help prevent sugar spikes.
The family lives in a small village in the Khmelnytskyi region. Yaroslava's parents work at a local nursing home for the elderly and disabled. The social welfare sector cannot boast of high salaries. That's why mom and dad buy only the most necessary things. The state only provides Yaroslava with insulin, and her parents have to buy all the other consumables. The family lives with her grandfather, who is 77 years old and also needs constant care and hardly ever leaves the house.
Yaroslava is a very cheerful girl who loves pets. She has two dogs and two cats. Unfortunately, none of her walks with her pets can go without finger piercing and sugar monitoring. The child cannot do many things as she used to do before diabetes. The disease requires a constant regimen and responsibility. The child cannot inject insulin himself, so he does not eat at school with other children. And this, in turn, affects his emotional state. Of course, monitoring sensors would help the child, and there would be no need to wake her up at night for measurements. In addition, it is very important for the girl to monitor her blood glucose levels remotely, as she is very active at school. And since October 28, her local school has been undergoing renovations, and children are transported 20 km away to another educational institution, so on days when her sugar is unstable, the child does not attend school.
Yaroslava's mother asks us to help her daughter purchase systems for accurate blood glucose measurement. They can help maintain the girl's optimal health, reduce the risk of chronic complications from diabetes, and ensure a better quality of life for the child and her ability to feel on par with other healthy children.
