Awareness campaign “Hello, Bro!”
Most of youth with Down Syndrome, autism and intellectual disabilities are finding themselves in the social isolation after school graduation. Ukrainian society in its majority believe that these young people can not and do not want to work and have fun and active life: go to museums and cinemas, play basketball at a sports field with peers, eat burgers at McDonald’s...
Most of the society do not accept them. And it is not because the society is bad, but because of the fear it has. The fear of the unknown and unfamiliar. This is that simple: they do not accept because they fear; and they fear because they do not know. And this is something that can be fixed :)
We Perspectiva 21.3, are a young charity organization that have started its work in Brovary recently. We have been working to establish the Social and Vocational Training Center for young people with Down Syndrome, autism and intellectual disabilities. Very soon we plan to open an inclusive café/shop in a central part of the city which will provide employment opportunities for our students.
Our goal is not just work quietly, but also to make a larger-scale impact. Today we have a local but big dream – to introduce our city with our activity and our students. We would like to implement an awareness campaign for Brovary city during February-March preceding the World Down Syndrome Day. We believe that it will lay a foundation to the establishment of friendly and accepting community in our city. Well, you know it well – together we can move mountains!
