Quarantine protects against coronavirus and at the same time stops the economy. Behind these dry words are hundreds of thousands of living people who lose their jobs and salaries. The company “Degree” conducted a survey that showed that half of Ukrainians will run out of funds within a month after the start of quarantine. We opened a food and household collection for unprotected families from the Dnieper who don’t already know what they will feed their children next week.

“We live together: a son with a severe disability and me, his mother. I work part-time because it's impossible to live on a pension. When quarantine began, I lost my job. We ask for help at least for the first time. The Radchenko Family. ” “I have three children: sons, schoolchildren, and daughter go to kindergarten. Parents do not help, I rent an apartment in the Dnieper. Now I’m on unpaid leave and just don’t know what I will feed my children next week”. “The poor family has three children, one of the children has a disability. Only the father works in the family, but because of quarantine, there is no work, and therefore no salary. The family asks for help in purchasing food and hygiene products. ” For the second week we receive such stories daily from families and from organizations that support them. Social services know: if a family has a person with a disability, if a family has many children with one working adult, they are at risk.

As long as there is work and salary, people survive, but as soon as the crisis, inflation, and cutbacks intervene, they face poverty. Increasingly, lunch consists of pasta alone, you have to sell things, patients stop taking the necessary medications, and the risk of alcoholism increases for adults. Now a huge number of people are on the verge of disaster. I really want to believe that this catastrophe is temporary, that the tsunami will subside — and everyone will return to work. But until this happens, a huge number of people need support, because now families have lost their only source of income. We have compiled a database of families from the Dnieper who have fallen into difficult circumstances in connection with quarantine. We will acquire for them basic products (cereals, flour, canned food, butter, etc.) and the most necessary household chemicals. The average price tag of a set for one family of 3 people are UAH 900. We want no one to starve during this difficult time.

We want mothers not to have to choose: buy a bag of flour and bake pancakes or buy powder to wash the diapers. We ask everyone who has the opportunity to participate in the collection of any feasible amount! Only by uniting can we go through the quarantine test!
