Zhenia from Kharkiv needs nutrition

      Zhenya was born at 32 weeks’ gestation, weighing just 1,740 g. She spent the first four months of her life in the neonatal intensive care unit. She began having seizures at one month old, but was only diagnosed with epilepsy at six months following an examination at the Regional Perinatal Centre. 
      In accordance with Cooperation Agreement No. 21 between the International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Charity Exchange’ and the charitable aid operator, the Charitable Foundation ‘POMAGAYEM’, dated 31 August 2020, and Supplementary Agreement No. 21. No. 326 of 29 July 2025, the project ‘Kharkiv resident Zhenya needs food’ was posted on the website dobro.ua with the aim of raising donations to cover the cost of treatment for Yevheniia Lepetailo.
      During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use part of the funds raised on the website of the Charitable Organisation International Charitable Foundation “Ukrainian Charity Exchange” – dobro.ua – to purchase special dietary food for the girl. Therefore, in accordance with letters No. 402 dated 5 August 2025 and No. 573 dated 4 November 2025, we received the raised amounts of 10,400.00 UAH (ten thousand four hundred hryvnias, 00 kopecks) and 16,800.00 UAH (sixteen thousand eight hundred hryvnias, 00 kopecks) into the Fund’s account and continued the fundraising on the dobro.ua platform. 
      The initial target amount for the project was 59,431.00 UAH (fifty-nine thousand four hundred and thirty-one hryvnias, 00 kopecks). Once the full amount required to cover Yevheniia’s treatment had been raised on the two fundraising platforms: the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the Pomahayem Charitable Foundation, we requested that the fundraising campaign be closed, that the project amount on the UBB be reduced to the amount actually raised – 35,881.00 UAH (thirty-five thousand eight hundred and eighty-one hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and to transfer the remaining funds – 8,681.00 UAH (eight thousand six hundred and eighty-one hryvnias, 00 kopecks) – to cover the girl’s medical treatment and project administration costs, in accordance with letter No. 73 dated 16 February 2026.
      In 2025, we provided Zhenya with Nutricia Nutrilon lactose-free specialised formula totalling 19,138.00 UAH (nineteen thousand one hundred and thirty-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks). 
      In 2026, we also continued to support the girl with specialised formula. In February, we purchased and provided the necessary formula worth 9,634.00 UAH (nine thousand six hundred and thirty-four hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and in May – worth 5,314.95 UAH (five thousand three hundred and fourteen hryvnias, 95 kopecks), and also covered the project administration costs.
      Zhenya is actively working with a neuropsychologist and a speech therapist, developing her communication, concentration and learning skills. She has significantly improved her writing and drawing, which used to be difficult for her. She particularly enjoys colouring books with bright colours — through them, the little girl expresses herself.
      There has also been progress in her speech: Zhenya clearly pronounces the syllable ‘ma’. She is gradually overcoming her fear and beginning to walk unaided, which is important for her development.
On the advice of a neurologist, the girl is undergoing drug therapy to recover from a stroke she suffered at birth. Anti-seizure medication has already been discontinued thanks to sustained remission, which has significantly improved her condition.
      A course of massage is planned for the end of May to strengthen her muscles and improve blood circulation. Every day, Zhenya achieves new small victories, which inspires optimism and hope.

      At present, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the child’s needs.
