Karina is a creative girl who loves handicrafts. She grew and developed at the same pace as her peers – always active and rarely ill. For six years, alongside her regular schooling, she also attended music school, studying piano.
Karina was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 15. Her mother noticed that something had changed – extreme fatigue, excessive thirst, frequent trips to the bathroom, and sudden weight loss. When they went to the doctors, they received difficult news about their daughter's condition. It was very hard for the family to process and accept. Setting their emotions aside, they immediately began treatment to help bring Karina back to a better state. She is now under medical supervision and her condition has stabilized somewhat, but the illness itself will not go away.
Karina lives with her mother and two brothers. Her father, grandfather, and grandmother passed away some time ago. She has good friends and continues to fight the illness with everything she has. Her mother and brothers support and help her every step of the way.
Karina's mother works multiple jobs to support the whole family and help her daughter adapt to life with diabetes. Even so, there is not enough money to provide Karina with continuous glucose monitoring (sensors). During this difficult time, the family is reaching out for help and support from those who care.
