"Mom, I know everything about my disease and here they write that I can survive!" Having heard these words the boy’s mother could not say a word because she had eyes full of tears and a lump in the throat. How she could explain everything to a little boy with such adult thoughts. The only thing that she could say: "You will survive!". The mother Natasha took away her son from the war zone but here she has another war, a war for her son's life.
The mother Natasha doesn’t have a strong courageous shoulder to lean on it. Kyrylo's father died not knowing about his son's birth. The mother's partner went to Crimea with his own younger son. Where can she get money for treatment? How can she pay bills for an operation and medicines? How can she explain all the details and complications of the surgery as a result of which he may lose the ability to walk?
There are a lot of questions and it's hard to find answers. Listening to the approximate protocol of the operation Natasha was losing hope. The doctors explained to her that the knee joint would be removed, the leg would be amputated, a spacer would be installed but the chances for engraftment were quite low. A lot of antibiotics and accompanying medicines were required.
The disease began in September 2013. Kyrylo complained of pain and lameness. His mother brought him to the doctors immediately and he was examined. And in October 2013 as a result of examinations the diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma was made. They started a long treatment at the local hospital. When the war started in Gorlivka the mother brought her son to the National Institute of Cancer in Kyiv. Kyrylo will have a complicated surgery and he will need a long-term rehabilitation, possibly more than one. It all requires a lot of money. And everything gets complicated by a difficult situation in the country, in the boy’s hometown, it is impossible to receive a disability pension and other social allowances. Natasha cannot even be sure that their house is not destroyed because the area is constantly under fire.
For the boy's treatment it's necessary to collect 7000 UAH – too large amount for a single mother. Who will help them if we won't?
