Sofia was born a perfectly healthy child: she developed well, rarely caught colds, and was sociable and cheerful. However, everything changed three years ago.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the girl's family contracted the virus. Sofia seemed to have had the mildest case. But she began to lose weight rapidly and complain of fatigue. When her parents took her to the doctor, Sofia's condition was already critical. The child was completely exhausted and was urgently sent for tests. After she was admitted to the intensive care unit, the doctors reported that the child had type 1 diabetes.
Sofia is now 11 years old and has begun puberty, which has made it almost impossible to control her blood sugar levels. Her glucose levels begin to spike for no reason at night, and her blood sugar becomes very unstable. But hypoglycemia has always been the worst.
Sofia already gives herself insulin injections and measures her sugar with a glucometer, and because of this, her fingers are covered in scars. The only way to make it easier to control her sugar levels is through constant monitoring with sensors. For some time, her parents bought the sensors with their own money, but this became difficult for their large family's budget. The girl's mother is unable to work because she needs to constantly monitor Sofiika's condition and her diet.
Sofiika has younger siblings – twins. Therefore, the family's expenses are considerable. The family should not be forced to choose between medical care for one child and the well-being of the others – you can help them with this!
