Krystyna dreams of changing the lives of people

Five years ago, Krystyna was diagnosed with diabetes, and since then she has dreamed of making life easier for insulin-dependent people. The girl is confidently moving towards her goal, she has already entered college and is gaining knowledge that will give her the opportunity to someday create a program to help the patients with diabetes. In the meantime, Krystyna herself needs help.

Krystyna was born and lived in Kharkiv, until at the end of March 2022, a shell exploded near the house, making a hole in the wall of the kitchen and bathroom. At that time, the girl with her parents and older brother were hiding in the basement of the kindergarten. They managed to evacuate to their relatives in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv region. 

Krystyna's illness appeared in the fall of 2019. Then she lost weight sharply, despite her good appetite, began to tire quickly, and was constantly thirsty. Relatives attributed this to the girl's workload: she was finishing the 8th grade and was preparing for the "Miss Kharkiv" competition, in which she took second place.

But when Krystyna fainted on the morning of December 1, it became clear that everything was much more serious. The girl was admitted to the intensive care unit with a glucose level of 17.5 over the normal range of 5. Her life changed dramatically: she had insulin injections, finger pricks, counting bread units several times a day.

The condition was stable for the first two years, until puberty began. After Krystyna fainted twice due to a sharp drop in her glucose level, she was fitted with a used pump. The pump automatically injects insulin; and to find out that there is a need for this, sensors are needed. For five years now, the purchase of sensors has been the first item on the list of expenses every month.

Krystyna had complications: problems with the digestive system, increased intracranial pressure, constant headache due to glucose spikes. She goes out only accompanied and takes a snack with her.

This year, Krystyna entered the college majoring in Software Engineering. She dreams of creating a "Pump Loop" program that will make the lives of insulin-dependent people much easier.
