A total of 15,933.51 UAH was spent within the project. The entire amount was used to purchase food supplies for the “Summer Leisure for the Children of Heroes” camp.
Thanks to the support of donors and the dobro.ua community, we were able to organize a 10-day summer camp for 15 children aged 11 to 13—children of deceased, missing, and captured Ukrainian military personnel.
The camp was held from August 11 to 21.
The camp program included three meals a day, accommodation, excursions, and various activities. The children participated in art therapy classes, team games, sports competitions, and creative workshops. A series of social and emotional learning trainings were conducted, including classes on combating human trafficking and various types of violence. An important part of the program was trust-building exercises, relaxation practices, and group creative projects.
Special attention was paid to psychological support. Through drawings, group games, and creativity, the children were able to express their deep feelings. In several cases, they shared things that they had kept hidden for years, even from their loved ones. In one of the drawings, a child wrote: “Dad is the most precious thing I no longer have.” Her father disappeared without a trace at the beginning of the war. This shows how deeply the camp was able to touch and process emotions.
The camp was held in Mshanetske Kolyby, a picturesque place surrounded by nature that created an atmosphere of safety and tranquility. Comfortable accommodation provided the children with a sense of security and laid the foundation for emotional recovery.
One of the key events was the “Treasure Trove of Gratitude” activity, where each child could anonymously write words of gratitude and wishes to the camp team. Among the comments were: “Thank you for such a wonderful camp,” “You have left a mark on my heart forever,” “I will never forget you,” “I liked everything very much.” This simple practice allowed the children to feel the power of support and the value of community.
The results confirmed the effectiveness of the project: over 80% of participants actively took part in group activities, and most children showed a decrease in anxiety and an increase in self-confidence. A warm community was formed, which continues to support each other after the end of the camp.
