A year and a half has passed since Maksim was diagnosed with type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes. Since then, his family's life has changed dramatically. In the first months, his parents had a feeling that they had entered another dimension, from which there was no way back to the usual reality. But time heals. It took my mother a year to return to positive thoughts.
At first, she was afraid to leave her son at school, virtually alone with his condition. After all, the school's medical staff does not help with monitoring the student's blood glucose levels and cannot give insulin injections. The school administration, teachers, and classmates all treat Maksim with understanding. The teacher gives the boy the opportunity to have snacks, go out during class, and answer phone calls from his parents.
The parents are working to make Maksim's diabetes a manageable lifestyle. We can say that this is their marathon, which they have to run every day. The boy's mother is sure that diabetes, like any serious chronic disease, pushes a person to appreciate life more and fill it with meaning. Nowadays, school for her son is not only about gaining knowledge – it is also a space for communication, and an opportunity to develop and express thoughts and dreams.
Thanks to the support of philanthropists, Maksim can lead a lifestyle that is close to his peers and not feel “different”. This is made possible by glucose monitoring sensors, modern medical devices that make life easier and safer for people with diabetes. Let's help Maksim buy the sensors, because his family deserves it.
