Little Ksiusha is fighting for her health
Five insulin injections a day, up to 20 finger pricks to take blood for analysis – this was the life of two-year-old Ksiusha when she was diagnosed with diabetes. Installing an insulin pump freed the child from injections, and the parents began collecting funds to purchase sensors. But when Ksiusha’s brother was diagnosed with epilepsy, the financial burden on the family became unbearable.
Ksiusha is the third child in the Ilchuk family: she has an adult sister and a fifteen-year-old brother. At two years old, Iryna brought her daughter to the doctor with complaints of thirst, loss of weight and appetite, and the smell of acetone. The doctor sent them to the laboratory.
Before they had time to return home, they received a call and were informed that the glucose level was very high – 26 mmol/l, while the norm was up to 5. Ksiusha was admitted to intensive care, where diabetes was diagnosed and insulin medications were prescribed. The family's life has changed dramatically: insulin injections, endless finger pricks, counting bread units.
With the help of relatives and friends, in 2021, the parents bought a pump – a device that automatically injects insulin subcutaneously at the right time. In addition to diabetes, Ksenia has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and toxic-allergic nephropathy. The girl regularly undergoes tests and takes medications.
Despite her health problems, Ksiusha goes to dance classes, modeling classes, and preparatory courses for school, where she will go in two years. Ksiusha is a cheerful, energetic girl who warms everyone around with her light. She has many dreams and plans.
At the beginning of 2023, parents began raising money to purchase sensors that display glucose levels every 5 minutes in a special application without pricking fingers. The use of sensors not only relieves the patient of pain, but also allows for better control of glucose levels, supporting vision, the functioning of the heart, blood vessels, and kidneys.
But in April of 2023, Ksiusha’s brother Dania suddenly lost consciousness and began to have convulsions. All funds raised were spent on examinations; Dania was diagnosed with epilepsy.
The family rents an apartment, only dad works, mom takes care of the children. They really need our help in raising funds to purchase Freestyle Libre 2 sensors and consumables for them (the amount is enough for a year). Let's help Ksiusha stay healthy!
