Davyd was born a wanted and healthy boy. But after 4 months, his parents noticed worrying changes: the child was not rolling over, not sitting up, not responding to loved ones, and showing no interest in toys. Tests confirmed their worst fears – the child was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. From that moment, a difficult fight for the boy's health began. At one year old, Davyd underwent an MRI, which revealed another serious diagnosis – Dandy-Walker syndrome – a developmental abnormality of the cerebellum that causes coordination problems, delayed motor development (difficulty learning to walk and maintain balance), and speech delay.
This came as a tremendous shock to the family, but they did not lose faith. Thanks to persistent efforts and regular rehabilitation, Davyd began to make important strides forward: at 1 year and 5 months he learned to sit independently, and just before the age of 3 – to walk with support. Davyd is now 4 years old, and his walking and language comprehension have improved significantly. The boy is better at navigating his surroundings, communicates more actively with other children, and enjoys attending sessions with specialists. These achievements are the result of a daily struggle, the family's unbreakable spirit, and the work of rehabilitation professionals. But a long road still lies ahead. For Davyd to have the chance to continue developing, he needs new rehabilitation courses.
The child's brain has, in a sense, a "weak connection" between its centers, which means Davyd requires far more repetitions and specialized exercises to train his nervous system to function correctly. The next step is an intensive neurorehabilitation course at the Modruchi center. Hydrokinesiotherapy in a specialized pool will allow Davyd to practice movements without the fear of falling. Professional physical therapists will work on his coordination through sessions on interactive equipment and a verticalization system. Occupational therapy will help the child master everyday skills, while sessions with a speech and language therapist will stimulate his speech development. This is a science-based approach that offers a real chance to teach the cerebellum to function properly and to take the first confident steps independently.
Unfortunately, the family has exhausted all of their financial resources and can no longer afford the costly treatment on their own. That is why the support of caring people is crucial. Please support Davyd and give this child the opportunity to take new steps toward a full life!
