Looking at this young girl, you would never guess that her life is a struggle to live a normal teenage life. A year and a half ago, Mariia was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. A week before her birthday, she was in intensive care, spending the night on a drip. A child cannot accept and understand that this is happening to her. Why is this happening, why to her?
Adolescence is difficult enough without illness, but here everything is many times harder.
Mariia does not feel the beauty of a full life, only endless sugar measurements, insulin injections, and certain restrictions. To make matters worse, their family are internally displaced persons – they were forced to leave their home in March 2022. Left with nothing, they are trying to rebuild their lives in another city, but it is very difficult without their own home.
Despite emotionally difficult periods, Mariika is an independent, strong, courageous, and persistent girl. She has a goal and is working toward it. She is studying law at a lyceum. She enjoys drawing and loves to read. She immerses herself in the world of books, seeking refuge there.
No matter how difficult it is, the family sticks together, supports each other, and listens to each other.
Today, Mariia's family is asking for help to provide their daughter with sensors, improve her blood sugar control, and prevent future complications.
