Premature babies are considered to be born before 37 weeks and weighing from 500 grams to 2.5 kg. With a premature birth, the child is not ready for life in new conditions (temperature, humidity, the need to breathe, suck, digest food). The higher the degree of prematurity, the more pronounced these problems, the longer the baby will adapt to them.

Catching up with biological age in extreme conditions, all organs and systems of such a child suffer. The nervous system regulates the ability for reflexes (searching, sucking, swallowing), reactions to sounds, improving vision, etc. In such children, the maturation of the transmission of impulses to the brain is delayed. The more pronounced prematurity, the more the baby's thermoregulation suffers - he can quickly get hypothermic or overheat. Immaturity of the respiratory center, narrow trachea and bronchi, a high-positioned diaphragm lead to the fact that the child breathes frequently and shallowly, which makes it difficult to provide the body with adequate oxygen. Reduced function of the thyroid gland, which leads to a slowdown in metabolism. This can threaten with prolonged jaundice, edema, poor weight gain.

Today, however, such babies, with proper treatment and care, have every chance to grow up into full-fledged, healthy, strong babies - nature has rewarded them with a phenomenal ability to compensate in order to catch up with their babies born on time by a year.

One of the main criteria for assessing the success of nursing is the weight gain of the child.Doctors weigh small patients every day to assess the effectiveness of nursing. Only by gaining a certain weight, the baby can be transferred from the risk group. For these daily manipulations, it is very important that the department has high-quality and most accurate newborn scales. Every gram counts.

In the 21st century, at the peak of technological discoveries, in some perinatal centers where premature babies are nursed, doctors do not have the most elementary. Scales for weighing patients. It's hard to believe, but this is the reality of our medicine. Our goal is to change that. Thanks to this project, we will purchase 6 scales for 4 Ukrainian hospitals, where premature babies are nursed.

Help will be received by: Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital, Mariupol Territorial Medical Association of Mother and Child Health, Sumy Regional Children's Clinical Hospital and Kharkiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1.

We join the fundraising platform for the development of theoretical and practical skills of doctors - Medvoice. As part of the Neonatology School training course, the platform will donate funds from the registration of participants for this project.

Join us too! After all, together we can do more!
