Eleven-year-old Kyrylo is a talented and creative boy. He has a gift for programming, studies technology, design, and modeling in the fields of construction and architecture, and is passionate about the latest technologies.
He was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus when he was 7 years old. Kyrylo suddenly felt unwell: dry mouth and constant thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, extreme weakness, numbness in his fingers and toes, and weight loss.
His family didn't hesitate and immediately consulted a pediatrician. Kyrylo's blood sugar was measured right away – the reading was critically high, and he was hospitalized immediately.
Over the following year, Kyrylo managed to maintain excellent blood sugar levels through a healthy and balanced diet, strict nutrition guidelines, and therapeutic exercise. As a result, his short-acting insulin doses were very small. The boy's physical condition improved. Hope emerged that, with proper health management, he would be able to live the same life as his peers.
But war soon came to the family's home in Mariupol. Kyrylo's father evacuated the family to a safe city and returned to the Donetsk region to fulfill his military duty defending the country. It became difficult for his mother to manage the child's condition in the usual way. Due to the stress the boy endured and constant anxiety, Kyrylo's blood sugar became uncontrolled, and ever-increasing doses of insulin were required to cover his meals. Adequate health management was only restored after the family relocated to temporary housing in Dnipro, where they stabilized his digestion and tried to adapt to their new living conditions.
However, Kyrylo must strictly adhere to his treatment and diet, undergo regular check-ups, and purchase blood glucose monitoring devices and consumables. His parents cannot financially provide glucose sensors on an ongoing basis, which is why they are reaching out to caring people for help.
Kyrylo strives to grow and discover new opportunities – and our support can help him move forward with confidence, with his blood sugar under control.
