Three years ago, on the eve of St. Nicholas Day, Andrii's life changed forever. He suddenly fell ill: he became lethargic, had no desire to speak, eat, or move. He only kept asking for water. It did not look like an ordinary illness. His worried parents turned to their family doctor. During the examination, the doctor decided to check his blood sugar level – and that moment was one they would never forget. The reading was critical – the maximum number on the glucometer. The threshold beyond which children can fall into a coma. Andrii was immediately sent to intensive care. There, the fight for his condition began: insulin, IV drips, constant monitoring. The doctors stabilized his levels, after which the boy was transferred to the regional hospital. Examinations, specialist consultations, and a devastating diagnosis – type 1 diabetes.
From that moment on, the lives of Andrii and the entire family changed completely. Daily injections, constant finger pricks, monitoring every meal, fear of sharp blood sugar fluctuations. A constant feeling of hunger, worry, and exhausting monitoring became part of his childhood.
Andrii is a strong boy, but he is still a child. It is hard for him to endure the constant pain and tension. To make his life at least a little easier, a continuous glucose monitoring sensor is essential. It will allow him to avoid dozens of daily finger pricks and help respond to dangerous changes in time.
The family is sincerely asking for support with sensors. For his parents, it is a chance to give their child a somewhat easier and safer childhood.
