Don’t leave Danylo alone with his pain

"My son Danylo will soon turn 7, and his life has been a struggle since birth. He was born with hypoxia, which damaged his nervous system, as well as a congenital defect in his right hand – he only has four fingers. From the first months of his life, there were hospitals, operations, and pain," says the boy’s mother.

Danylo has already undergone eight surgeries. Doctors tried to save and repair his hand, but now his fingers still cannot bend. The first surgery was when Danylo was only six months old. After a year, his development began to lag sharply, and after each new surgery, he lost the skills he had just begun to acquire.

The boy did not understand spoken language, did not respond to his name, did not understand where he was or who was around him. His little world was filled with pain, hospitals, and fear.

When Danylo was 4 years old, another tragedy occurred. He spilled boiling water on himself and burned his shoulder, covering almost 10% of his body: “It happened when we were abroad because of the war.” After returning home, Danylo underwent another complex operation – a skin graft and scar removal – so that the boy could at least raise his arm.

"Today, my son does not speak, barely understands spoken language, and is completely dependent on me. Every day is a struggle for him, every little movement is a huge effort. I am raising Danylo on my own and doing everything I can to give him a chance at life, development, and a future. But my strength and resources are running out."
