Neterpljachki – purchasing the oxygen therapy devices for Rivne RCH

When a child is born and its weight is a 1000 grams, the lungs are unripe, "not open", a child can not breathe and needs mechanical ventilation with the introduction of special products and supplemental oxygen. Such children are treated in intensive care. 

After the baby starts breathing on its own (which can begin in 4-7 days, but also in 1-2 months), the need in oxygen stays, but from now the oxygen is received through the mask.  Typically, such babies are transferred to the second stage department of nursing of premature babies, where oxygen is of the desired temperature and humidity is supplied to babies through the oxygen therapy devices. If the process of oxygen inflow to the body of such a child, that has only gone through the intensive care, is not controlled - it may lead to dangerous consequences. The most frequent adverse effects of the oxygen therapy are lesions of the brain, lungs and organs of vision. High concentrations of oxygen lead to the irreversible destruction of nerve cells, resulting in the child's fall behind in the mental development as of peers. The negative influence of oxygen to the eye is a retinopathy of premature born, which can result in blindness.

Lungs suffer the most. They are damaged by the uncontrolled oxygen concentration, lack of adequate wetting and heating. A year ago little patients of the department of nursing of premature born children of Rovno Regional Children's Hospital received two special oxygen mixers HC-150. The goal of this project is the full equipment of the department and the ability for doctors to work with children who are in need of oxygen therapy. That is why we started the new fund raising for purchasing two more special oxygen mixers HC-150 for Rivne RCH. Due to these devices the necessary concentration of oxygen between 21% to 100% can be chosen, as well as the necessary temperature and the flow, while it all goes through the special humidity camera. Thus children can receive the wet and warm oxygen of the necessary concentration. And depending on the condition of a child it can be controlled and modified.
