A doctor once told her she would never be able to live a full life, but today, 16-year-old Sasha manages her own schedule of online classes, attends an IT school, and dreams of a career where her main tool will be her mind, not physical strength.
Sasha’s story is a marathon that spans her entire life. It began in the 33rd week of pregnancy with intensive care and blood transfusions. What followed were years of grueling training, over 60 rehabilitation courses, and daily work to learn what others take for granted: sitting, maintaining balance, and speaking.
Today, Sasha is on the threshold of a new phase. She is growing up, becoming incredibly responsible and determined. But adolescence and growth spurts have brought new challenges – her body is finding it increasingly difficult to cope with spasticity. What used to come more easily now requires new medications and increased attention from specialists.
This winter was particularly difficult. Power outages, the absence of her usual activities, and her mother’s injury – who has always been Sasha’s “hands” and support – led to the girl beginning to lose the skills she had developed over the years. Now, more than ever, Sasha needs professional help to prevent the disease from taking away her independence.
"Sasha is doing great; she’s trying very hard. Now she manages her studies on her own, and in April she started exploring the IT field. This is her chance to find her niche and be independent," her mom shares.
For Sasha, rehabilitation is an opportunity to continue her education, the ability to use a tablet to create, and a chance at a life where her diagnosis isn’t a barrier to her dreams.
We are launching a fundraiser for a rehabilitation course that will help Sasha recover after a difficult winter and prepare for the next step in her education.
Support this future IT professional who, against all odds, chooses to move forward!
