For 16 years now, Oleksandr has been living with diabetes. The day his family learned of their then-two-year-old son’s incurable illness is one they will never forget. That day divided the family’s life into "before" and "after".
Always smiling, positive, and active, Sasha suddenly began to lose weight, drink a lot of water, experience shortness of breath, and his acetone levels rose. At that moment, his mother’s heart sensed something was wrong, but she held onto the hope that everything would be okay. His mom thought it was just a common case of food poisoning – they’d admit him to the hospital, prescribe some medicine, and everything would be fine. But, unfortunately, that didn’t happen. It was only the beginning of suffering and trials.
Little Sasha was taken to the ICU as soon as the glucose test results were ready. Later, at the regional hospital, they explained the condition in more detail – diabetes. It was very hard for his parents to accept that this was a lifelong condition. Constant blood sugar checks, insulin injections, counting carbohydrate units. All of this was very exhausting for both Mom and the little boy. But day by day, Sasha learned to live with it.
And now, for 16 years, insulin has been saving his life. But only over time did they realize that insulin injections and a diet aren’t the worst part. The worst aspect of the disease is the complications, which are very difficult to avoid.
The family continues to support their now-adult son and hopes for the best. Together, they are navigating the difficult path that fate once laid out for them. But to save his life and prevent complications, Oleksandr needs constant blood sugar monitoring. Only continuous glucose monitoring sensors can provide this uninterrupted monitoring.
Together, we can help Oleksandr and provide him with the sensors he needs. Together, we can support him on this difficult journey. Don’t stand on the sidelines – your help truly changes lives!
