Restoring Marta’s shining. Stage 2
Our good friend, sunny Marta, has started her fight against the disease. She was hospitalized with a huge swelling on her neck and doctors couldn’t establish the accurate diagnosis for a long time. They needed an expert opinion of colleagues from the capital-city, where her grandmother took her test results to. And then she was again diagnosed in Lviv. The final verdict was devastating - a malignant lymphoma. It is too severe for a fragile beauty…
At first Martha could not come to terms with the new condition, she was angry with her illness, and anxious about how her peers will perceive her. Meanwhile, the family was paralyzed by the fear of the unknown, the numerous medical tests, expensive drugs and the severe disease.
But a long way starts with the first step. And Martha’s Grandma knew it from the first day – she drew the family together, took care of the girl and controlled her treatment. Under such pressure the disease stepped back. Neoplasms with malign cells were removed. Thanks to the support of sympathetic people, doctors put in a catheter for potent chemotherapy. Martha’s eyes are still filled with sadness, but when talking with her and her family we feel determined to overcome all difficulties and emerge victorious from this fight! After the first chemotherapy cycle, her lymph nodes stopped growing, which make both Martha and her mother more optimistic – they can and should overcome the disease!
There are still many months to be spent in hospital. Chemotherapy may bring about complications and various side effects, to continue the treatment the girl’s test results should be normalized. So she needs to take related medication on the daily basis, which the family has to look for on their own. It is a luxury for Martha’s family living on the meager income from farming and the grandmother's pension. We really long to get Martha’s light back...
