Psychological support during the war

The war divided our life into before and after and changed the life quality of every Ukrainian for a long time or even forever. It’s been the fifth month as people in Ukraine live in fear for themselves and their family members. Many people who have experienced the horrors of war are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This disorder is one of the most serious and debilitating post-traumatic disorders. Both military and civilians can suffer from it, as well as adults and children. In unforeseen situations, people with PTSD go back again and again in their thoughts to escape, run, defend, or attack.

Diagnosing and rehabilitation of adults and children is a long and difficult process. Fears, enuresis, restless sleep, anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, loss of speech, tearfulness, resentment are most common with children. As well as an overreaction to loud sounds – even the loud car braking causes fear. In fact, the support of parents and the environment is important for children. But parents also have feelings of anxiety, conflict, aggression, depression.

In order to eliminate and prevent post-traumatic stress disorder and other psychological problems and to live with injuries caused by the horrors of war, we plan to involve a psychologist and a psychotherapist in the work of our Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation in Kyiv. During the month, they will work with the wards of our organization and conduct individual and group classes, help to stop the unpredictable consequences of mental health and rehabilitate not only adults and children, but also the whole family. Thanks to the project, we will be able to help 10 adults and 10 children who are currently receiving help in our Center. These are people from Donetsk, Luhansk, Chernihiv, Kyiv and Kyiv region.
