Rostyslav grew up to be a healthy, active, cheerful, and inquisitive child. He was not particularly prone to illness and generally developed at the same pace as other children. But suddenly, Rostyslav fell ill with meningitis, and later with COVID-19. The child's body could not cope: the boy began to tire quickly, lose weight, his skin became dry, and his behavior became aggressive. When his parents took him to the doctor, Rostyslav's condition was already critical – at the time of hospitalization, his blood sugar level was seven times higher than normal.
The boy has been suffering from type I diabetes for about four years. A year ago, the commission assigned him to subgroup “A” due to the extremely severe course of the disease. Rostyslav needs insulin to survive, because without it, his body cannot regulate sugar levels on its own: he often experiences both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.
The diagnosis came as a shock and caused extreme stress for the family. Against the backdrop of constant anxiety, the boy's father also developed type II diabetes. But the family is not giving up. From the very beginning, they bought their son continuous glucose monitoring sensors, and over time, they bought an insulin pump for better sugar compensation. Unfortunately, it broke down, and the family cannot afford to replace it, along with all the other consumables. Currently, the child's main need is for continuous glucose monitoring sensors. Support them in their struggle!
