Serious struggle of Dima
Coronavirus, pneumonia, Burkitt's lymphoma - even a couple of months ago, Dima's mother would not have dreamed in a bad dream that her son would be given these diagnoses one after the other, that her beloved boy would fight cancer.
“Don't be fake, a common cold,” the family doctor dismissed Elena in March, when she brought Dima with shortness of breath and fever. But the boy did not get any easier, and a day later Elena and Dima went without a referral to the Dnieper Children's Hospital No. 6. There, the specialists took a closer look at the examination, diagnosed pneumonia, and the next day the X-ray showed that the right lung was not working.
Dima was immediately taken to the intensive care unit, a drain was installed, and about 2 liters of liquid were pumped out. Two days later, it was necessary to install drainage on the left lung. The analysis showed a coronavirus and Dima was transferred to the Regional Children's Hospital in the infectious diseases department for patients with coronavirus. The drainage was removed, but a day later it was installed again: fluid continued to accumulate in the lungs.
When the tests stopped showing covid, Dima was transferred to surgery. There, the manager noticed the boy's swollen belly. CT scan showed that fluid accumulates in the abdominal cavity. Dima had an operation to pump her out, then the surgeon saw metastases in the intestines. Dima was given a puncture, the boy was admitted to hematology with a diagnosis of Burkitt's lymphoma.
Chemotherapy was started. The child immediately began to suffer from severe pain in the arms and legs. The analyzes showed that calcium is 10 times lower than the norm, and creatinine is seriously increased, and Dima was admitted to intensive care for the umpteenth time. There, in the intensive care unit, they continued to administer chemotherapy, it was impossible to postpone.
Only in mid-May did Dima's condition relatively stabilize, and he was transferred back to hematology. Soon the second chemotherapy block will begin, there will be at least six of them, then a puncture – and the doctors will decide on the further treatment plan.
Two months ago, the sixth grader Dimka went to school, ran in the yard, rode a bicycle, enjoyed the first warm days. But most of the spring he had to spend not just in the hospital – in intensive care. And there is still a long and difficult path of treatment ahead, and there is no confidence in the future. But it is imperative to give the boy every possible chance!
More than UAH 60,000 was spent by the mother for these 2 months on the treatment of her son. Chemotherapy, antifungals, some other drugs are available in the hospital, but a lot of drugs have to be bought at their own expense: Zarcio, Albunorm, Heparin, Heptral, Creon, Thiotriazolin, Nifuroxazid, Octagam.
We are opening a collection to pay for drugs and supplies. Let's arm Dima in the fight against the disease!
