Kateryna is an active, creative girl who loves to sculpt with plasticine, ride her bike, and play with her brother. The children are very similar – they are twins and good friends. However, Kateryna has one very important difference. Unlike her brother, she has an incurable disease. When Kateryna was a little less than four years old, doctors diagnosed her with type 1 diabetes.
The child felt lethargic, drank a lot of water, and lost a lot of weight. After consulting with doctors, the family received a difficult diagnosis and a referral for hospitalization. The two weeks spent in the hospital were hell. On the first day, the girl had her finger pricked for blood every three hours, and she cried and screamed in her mother's arms. She hid her hands in her mother's bosom because she did not understand why they were hurting her. What made it even harder was that her mother was in the hospital with both children. Fortunately, the boy turned out to be healthy, but caring for both twins was extremely difficult.
But together, the family learned to cope with the disease: counting bread units, injecting insulin, and recognizing the signs of high and low blood sugar. Mom doesn't leave her children at school so she can monitor her daughter's condition – she can't do it herself yet, and frequent hypoglycemia requires constant monitoring.
Instead of her mother's frightened eyes and constant finger pricks, continuous glucose monitoring sensors can help monitor glucose levels. Unfortunately, these life-saving devices are too expensive for the family: only the father works, while the mother takes care of the children. It is difficult to buy two necessary sensors per month on his salary alone. Help Kateryna not to lose her childhood because of her illness.
