Dmytro's path of trials

14-year-old Dmytro is a dependable support for his family. The boy is passionate about sport, as it helps him build character and stay strong.

For 6 years now he has been living with type 1 diabetes, learning every day to be strong despite the pain of constant finger pricks and blood sugar monitoring. His life is one of constant movement and a fight for stability.

Dmytro was frequently ill from childhood. He spent a great deal of time in hospitals and suffered from ear infections that caused partial hearing loss at the age of 4. Even then, his childhood was filled with trials rather than carefree play. He studies at school under an inclusive education program. He has few friends, but values each of them deeply. His older brother, with whom he has a very warm and close relationship, is a particular source of support for Dmytro.

Dima was diagnosed with diabetes at an early age. The onset was severe: after a serious bout of tonsillitis he lost weight rapidly and his blood sugar rose to critical levels. The doctors established the diagnosis – diabetes. There is currently a high risk of complications, unstable glucose readings, and sometimes sudden hypoglycemic episodes. To sustain his life and manage his condition, Dmytro strictly adheres to insulin therapy.

Despite all the difficulties, the family supports the boy and tries to maintain a stable condition. The family's funds are enough only for the bare essentials: food, test strips, needles, and alcohol wipes. But daily diabetes management requires significantly more resources and ongoing support. To stay strong and live a full life, Dmytro needs continuous monitoring sensors.
