Due to the stress experienced by his mother Victoria, Andriy was born at 35 weeks of pregnancy with signs of hypoxia. The discharge summary stated: hypoxic-ischemic damage to the central nervous system. At the age of one and a half, the boy stopped talking, looking people in the eye, waved his arms like wings, and became selective in his eating habits. Three years later, he was diagnosed with childhood autism.
In accordance with cooperation agreement No. 21 between the Ukrainian Charity Exchange Charitable Foundation and the charity aid operator POMAGAEM Charitable Foundation dated August 31, 2020, and supplementary agreement No. 21. 336 dated 17.09.2025, the project “Strength for a Little Dreamer” was posted on the website of the charitable organization International Charitable Foundation “Ukrainian Charity Exchange” - dobro.ua - with the aim of attracting donations to pay for the treatment of Andriy Kovalchuk.
During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use part of the funds collected on the website of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange (UCE) – dobro.ua – to purchase medicines and special food for the boy. Therefore, according to letter No. 502 dated 29.09.2025, we received the collected amount of UAH 5,680.00 (five thousand six hundred and eighty hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's account and continued the collection on the dobro.ua platform. Another 5,000.00 UAH (five thousand hryvnias, 00 kopecks) was credited to the Fund's account according to letter No. 572 dated November 4, 2025.
In October of this year, we purchased and delivered special food and medicines for Andriyko for a total amount of 5,680.00 UAH (five thousand six hundred and eighty hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and in November for the amount of UAH 5,000.00 (five thousand hryvnias, 00 kopecks).
The boy's health is significantly complicated by a diagnosis of gastroduodenitis, which requires long-term and careful treatment by a gastroenterologist. After another exacerbation of the disease, the child underwent blood tests, which showed significant deviations. In particular, an elevated level of antibodies to gliadin was detected: with a normal level of up to 40 units/ml, little Andriy's level reached 180 units/ml. In this regard, the doctors changed their approach to treatment and prescribed a new course of therapy, which required further monitoring of the child's condition.
After several weeks of treatment, the results of a repeat stool test showed normal gliadin levels, but the blood test still showed an elevated value of 160 units/ml. The doctor emphasized to the boy's mother that the process of recovery is complex and takes time, as the main goal of treatment is to reduce the negative impact of this pathology on internal systems. Despite some success in therapy, the boy began to experience problems with stool again, which is cause for concern.
Andriyko is currently ill with a high fever that has persisted for several days and is difficult to bring down. He misses school and his classmate the most, as he enjoys studying. In addition, he dreams of winter holidays and the Thomas the Tank Engine railway. His mother is sincerely grateful to everyone who supports her in her son's treatment.
Currently, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the child's needs, and the project is still raising funds.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help, and the UBB team for their many years of cooperation!
