At just 9 years old, Eldar already knows exactly when he needs to check his blood sugar. His days pass from one insulin injection to another, under strict restrictions and constant fear of glucose “spikes” that can lead to coma.
But there is a solution – switching to OmniPod Dash insulin pods (infusion systems), which can replace multiple painful injections with just one skin puncture every three days.
Before 2022, little Eldar had no health issues. However, after the start of the full-scale invasion, the city of Nikopol has been under relentless shelling. Along with other residents, Eldar experienced daily explosions, exhausting anxiety, and long hours spent in a damp basement. Most likely, severe stress became one of the factors that triggered his diabetes.
When his mother, Inna, noticed sudden weight loss, intense thirst, and weakness in her son, she did not realize how serious the situation was. One morning, a blood test showed critically high glucose levels, and Eldar was rushed in critical condition to intensive care in Dnipro.
After his condition stabilized, Eldar was referred to Okhmatdyt Hospital. Due to the severe course of the disease, doctors recommended regular use of glucose sensors. Since then, the child has been using them daily, which places a significant financial burden on the family.
The family was forced to relocate to the Nastasivka village in the Dnipro region. Eldar’s mother and his 17-year-old brother Maksym support him every way, while his father is defending the country.
Eldar studies online in the 4th grade and does his best to keep up with the school program. In his free time, he enjoys riding a scooter and a bicycle and dreams of becoming a driver one day.
Due to unstable blood sugar levels – hyperglycemia can change to hypoglycemia within just an hour – Eldar has developed problems with his blood vessels, heart, and liver, and he now takes medications to support these organs.
Currently, Eldar receives up to 8 insulin injections per day. Over the years, painful lumps have formed at injection sites. Using insulin pods would help resolve these issues. Eldar needs 10 pods per month, costing 13,750 UAH.
Each dose means peace of mind for the mother, freedom for the child, and another day without pain. Please help provide Eldar with doses for 10 months!
