A talented girl needs help
Oleksandra has had diabetes almost since the beginning of her life. She is now twelve years old and has been insulin dependent for eleven of those years. At the time her parents found out about their daughter's illness, they knew almost nothing about diabetes. They had no idea that this serious disease could occur in children. Their baby girl was admitted to the intensive care unit in a very serious condition. In the first days, all the doctors' efforts were aimed at saving the girl's life. The mother hoped for qualified doctors and that they knew what to do and how to treat the girl. The girl's life was saved. Doctors performed all the necessary procedures, and Oleksandra came back to life.
The news of the diagnosis was shocking and difficult for her parents to accept. But they had to learn new skills - to give injections to the child, to measure sugar levels. At first, it was a real stress, but later the procedures became familiar. The family's life continued in a new sense.
Now Oleksandra is studying at a lyceum. Despite her health problems, the girl is doing well in her studies. She also has very good drawing skills. The girl is fond of horses and tries to do equestrian sports. She is now an adult and can give herself insulin injections. But her sugar control is not so good. The girl forgets about the need for constant monitoring, and this can lead to serious complications. Sensors that work continuously can help with this. Unfortunately, her mother cannot provide her daughter with these extremely useful devices because of their high cost. Oleksandra needs our help!
