What happens in Ukraine to children left without parental care – those removed from their families or brought in directly from the streets? Very often, they are taken to a hospital for a medical examination and remain there for several days or even weeks. During this entire time, no more funding is allocated for them than for ordinary patients. Yet these children desperately need our support.
Imagine a pediatric hospital ward that becomes a temporary home for 12 children aged from 3 months to 16 years. Most of them are physically healthy, but there are also children with severe illnesses whose parents never took them home from the maternity hospital. They are waiting for decisions about their future from child welfare services and the courts. Afterward, a child may be placed in a family-based care setting or transferred to an institutional facility.
Until that decision is made, both infants and teenagers remain in the hospital, living through a painful period of uncertainty without knowing when it will end. There are no nannies, no caregivers, no teachers. There are very few toys and almost no opportunities for play or emotional relief.
No additional funding is provided for these children, though relatives do not visit them. They receive standard hospital meals, which is very scarce in Ukraine, often lacking proper nutrition. There is a shortage of diapers and basic hygiene supplies.
Unfortunately, the system offers no alternatives for them. Their only hope is us.
Every month, the Pomogaem Charitable Foundation purchases essential supplies for children without parental care who are staying at Dnipro City Clinical Hospital №6 (Unit №3). These include baby soap, wet wipes, diapers, baby food, fruit, biscuits, and other basic necessities.
Please support our fundraising effort so that these children can receive essential vitamins and nutrients, and so that no baby has to cry in a wet diaper. Together, we can ensure that no child is left without adult care and attention.
