Animals that experience war – help the zoo

In September 2023, the project “Animals that Feel War – Help the Zoo” was posted on the dobro.ua website, the purpose of which is to raise funds to pay for the food of animals in the Kharkiv Zoo.

At the end of 2023, due to the fact that a certain amount of funds was collected within the framework of the project, and there is an urgent need in the zoo to provide animals with meat, we withdrew an amount of 14,080.00 hryvnias for partial implementation of the project. By adding funds from the Fund’s budget, we were able to purchase 355 kg of beef.

The collection continued. Over the past year, we also managed to collect a certain amount within the framework of the project, and therefore in December 2024 we withdrew another amount of 38,442.00 hryvnias. By adding funds from the Fund’s budget, we purchased 418 kg of meat.

The zoo is currently operating partially and has been facing a shortage of funding for the maintenance of animals and staff for the third year. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the zoo has existed thanks to charitable support. We have also been supporting its activities for almost three years.

The Kharkiv Zoo is not only an important nature conservation object of national importance, but also a historical value. It is the first zoo in Ukraine, founded in 1895, and is one of the twenty oldest zoos in the world. In terms of the value of the collection, the Kharkiv Zoo ranks second in Ukraine after the Kyiv Zoo. It is home to 1,962 representatives of the fauna, including more than 200 species of animals: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals.

The collection under the project continues with the aim of providing assistance to the zoo in 2025.
