Veronika fell ill with diabetes at the age of one. To maintain her condition, the parents had to prick her fingers around the clock for blood tests and give her insulin injections. The use of sensors has become a real salvation for Veronika: it allows her to automatically measure her glucose level every 5 minutes. An IDP family turned to us for help in raising funds to purchase 24 Libre 2 sensors.

In late autumn 2012, Nika's condition deteriorated sharply. Weakness and thirst appeared and weight dropped. The diagnosis was made in the intensive care unit of a regional hospital in Donetsk, where the girl was admitted with a glucose level of 26 mmol/l when the norm was up to 5.

After discharge, the family’s life changed dramatically: injections, finger pricks, counting bread units, following a diet, and a strict daily routine.

And from February 24, 2022, they had to save their lifes by hiding in a cold basement from shells flying above it. In August, the family left the village of Krasne, Bakhmut district, and moved to Dnipro to a rented apartment. Soon a rocket hit their house, completely destroying it.

It took Veronika about a year to recover from the horror she experienced. Sports helped a lot – she has been doing aerial gymnastics. The girl graduated from 6th grade. Studying comes easy to her. Favorite subject is mathematics.

Nika is currently going through puberty; hormone surges cause sharp fluctuations in glucose levels during the day – from 2 to 20. The sensor takes measurements every 5 minutes and displays the readings on the screen, and in a critical case it gives a sound signal. Without this control it would be difficult.

But this device, designed for 14 days of operation, has one drawback – its price is 2 070 UAH. In a family with two children, where only the father (he is a fire rescuer) has the opportunity to work, the financial situation is difficult.

We are launching a fundraiser to provide Veronika with Freestyle libre 2 sensors for a year. Please help the child live without pain and reduce health risks!
