He beat cancer, help to beat hepatitis

A sixteen year old guy who was fighting cancer for two years has to be saved again. Sergey has hepatitis B. The family has exhausted all financial resources for tumor treatment. No money means no treatment.

For two years Sergey was struggling with a terrible disease – osteosarcoma of the right femur, he overcame relapse with metastases in the lungs. It seemed that all hardships were behind. However, the guy was diagnosed with hepatitis B, he got infected during the main treatment. Hepatitis treatment is very expensive and the family cannot cope with it alone. There are three children in the family: Sergey and his twin brothers (Zhenya and Vova). The father is a truck driver and the mother is a boiler operator in a small town of the Dnipropetrovsk Region: both of them have small salary.

“Till 14 years old I grew up like a normal kid. I liked to swim, to play football, tried not to disappoint my parents. I wanted to be a good elder brother but my younger twin brothers competed with each other and even with me. Now I cannot catch up with them in sports: they can press up, pull themselves up, swim but for me such physical exercises are forbidden. Sometimes I feel pain in the muscles when I am just walking. Still I don’t give up and I do rehabilitation exercises prescribed by the physiotherapist. I have to use horizontal bicycle trainer but I don’t have such a possibility. There is no space in our 2-room flat. Now I am finishing the 11th grade at school, the teachers come to me at home. I hope that nothing will prevent me from writing all the necessary tests and enter a medical school. I visit eagerly all the parties at school and I like to make pictures. I like to travel a lot learning something new. In Kiev I visited sacred places and made pictures of everything interesting, now it is my hobby. I cannot go outside without a photo camera. I spend a lot of time in front of computer, I am interested in life and I communicate with children who were treated with me. In March (probably) I will be operated on and I pray to God that this operation will be the last in my life. I want to be healthy”. Sergey Khartchenko, Dnipropetrovsk Region.
