The time when Vladyk was in the 2nd grade of secondary school was a turning point in the boy's life. Like many children with type 1 diabetes, he ended up in the intensive care unit with ketoacidosis. After that, the doctors' verdict was announced – insulin-dependent diabetes. The family was forced to move to Kyiv region, and Vladyk changed schools. In the new school, Vlad's peers respected him, even though he was shy, but sincere and kind. The boy really appreciated the attitude of his new friends towards him.
Over time, Vlad began to understand his illness, knew how to count bread units and how much he could eat for his weight, injected himself with insulin and controlled his sugar level. When the full-scale war started in Kyiv region, the boy and his family came under occupation. Vlad experienced a lot of stress, which affected his psychological state. After the experience, Vlad became silent and no longer has the sparkle in his eyes that he used to have. Now the boy and his family have moved to Dnipro to live with his grandmother, but he continues to study at a lyceum in Kyiv region, only online.
He had been taking insulin of inadequate quality for a long time, and puberty also played a role – and recently Vlad was hospitalized with acetone and high sugar levels. The doctors changed his insulin, and now it is very difficult for him to monitor his sugar levels with a regular glucometer. Vlad's fingers are swollen because he has to prick them every half hour to measure his glucose. Vlad really needs sensors to understand how the newly prescribed insulin works, and also to rest his fingers from the punctures.
The financial situation of Vlad's parents is difficult. His father has a disability since childhood, and 4 years ago he survived a cranial trepanation and a severe coma. He is unable to work fully. They cannot provide the boy with sensors, so they need our support.
