Life without injections
Rodion has suffered approximately 29,000 injections over the past 10 years. The boy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 7 years old. From the moment the diagnosis was made, the boy began a different life: with examinations, hospitals and constant pain. Mom describes how 5 times a day Rohde is pricked his fingers to take blood for analysis, and at least 3 more times a day insulin is injected into his arm or abdomen. Injections have become an everyday routine for him.
It seems that a person can get used to everything, but in reality it is not so. It is very difficult for a kid to explain why he has to suffer from injections all the time, and children cry bitterly because of them. But the teenager also gets tired of the pain and tries to avoid it.
"Recently, my son has started to skip meals and has lost a lot of weight. Can inject insulin before meals without measuring glucose levels, and this is very dangerous. He skips nighttime "sugar" measurements, and this often leads to hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia can begin in the middle of the day: just recently, in 5 minutes, the "sugar" level dropped from 3.2 to 1.2 mmol, and I had to go to my son's help. Fortunately, there was no reanimation", writes Rodion's mom.
Diabetes mellitus completely changes a child's life and entails other diagnoses. In addition to the main one, Rodion's card contains diabetic nephropathy and kyphoscoliosis. Despite all the difficulties associated with health, Rodion graduated from school on a regular form of study, music in the piano class and is now in his second year of college at the conducting faculty. Recently he signed up for a church choir.
Due to the fact that Rodin's lifestyle is different from the life of other people, the fragile psychological state of a teenager suffers. The boy is tired of the permanent anxiety about his health, about how others perceive him. And there is an opportunity to change all this at once. The Minimed Medtronic pump with the SmartGuard system, in a sense, can give a new life for Rodion. He will no longer need to constantly prick his fingers, hands and stomach: an invisible pump, fixed on the body, will itself control the blood glucose level. The number of punctures will be reduced many times.
The cost of the pump is very high for their family. Mom did not have the opportunity to work all the time while Rodya was a child and could not control his insulin intake himself. Rodion's stepfather also has a disability (he is liquidator of the Chernobyl accident). The family has one more child: Rodia's younger sister is in the third grade.
Let's help Rodion get rid of several problems with which he lived for the last 10 years at once, and see this world with different eyes!
