Ostap is a cheerful, active 8-year-old boy who lives in the town of Vynnyky near Lviv. He is raised in a large family and has two younger sisters: Katrusya and Darusya. His sister Katrusya suffers from autism spectrum disorder, which puts an additional strain on the family's already modest budget, as she requires constant rehabilitation procedures.
Ostap is fond of table tennis and Lego puzzles, but his greatest passion is trains: both real and toy ones. His dream is to open a museum with his own collection of trains. Ostap began swimming, which allows him to receive fewer insulin injections. He has now finished second grade at the local school.
The boy was diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes (type I) at the age of 4. Since then, Ostap's life has been lived in an hourly rhythm of insulin injections, sugar measurements, diet, weighing all meals, and counting calories.
Ostap needs continuous sugar monitoring, especially at night, as conventional glucometers turn the night into a sleepless struggle with high sugar levels. After such nights, the child's daily routine is disrupted, which affects his psychological and emotional state and development.
Ostap's mother is a teacher at a music college, and his father is a military musician. The war has changed the family's already difficult life, so they would be grateful for any help in supporting a pain-free childhood for their boy.
