A life that hangs in the balance

The department of intensive nursing of profoundly premature infants of "OKHMATDYT" receives young patients from all over Ukraine. These are premature infants with critically low birth weight, in the risk zone, who require skilled medical care. Every year more than 200 children who could not be treated in other hospitals in the country receive care here. As part of the project we aim to purchase special medical equipment, which will help in nursing the babies.

Deep breaths, slow exhalation, deep breaths to full lungs and... Hold your breath. For as long as you can. How long can you hold it? 30 seconds? 40? A minute? Deeply premature babies cannot breathe on their own. They are helped in this by special machines, for those who were not born yet. For these devices we need machines – SIPAPs, which implement several ways of respiratory support simultaneously for patients with respiratory failure. These breathing apparatuses require special accessories, which must be changed over time. The goal of our project is to complete two Infant-flow machines and purchase humidifier bases (2 pcs.); silicone breathing tubes (2 pcs.); hose warmers (2 pcs.); breathing tubes (2 pcs.); sensors for humidifiers (2 pcs.); electrical adapters (2 pcs.).

Despite the difficult conditions caused by Russia's military activity on the territory of Ukraine, the staff of the department of "OKHMATDYT" does its best to provide full medical care to newborns. During the war 130 newborns needed intensive care and prolonged nursing with non-invasive respiratory support, which is extremely important for saving the prematurely born babies.
