Within a short period of time, his parents noticed that something had happened to their child. Mark lost weight and began drinking a lot. The familiar symptoms that accompanied his father's illness appeared. Just a year earlier, Mark's father had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. His mother did not sleep all night because she suspected the worst. In the morning, she took his father's glucometer and measured Mark's blood sugar. Her fears were confirmed: his blood sugar was very high, which meant one thing – diabetes! Mark cried a lot because he already knew how difficult it was to live with diabetes. Now there were two people in their family with this disease.
Mark was treated and put on insulin therapy. The boy's life changed. Instead of his usual life, enjoying his favorite foods and sweets, going for walks with friends, and living a peaceful life, Mark now has to carry a device to measure his blood sugar and monitor it closely. This means more than 10 finger pricks a day. The boy switched to a special diet, just like his dad. And before each meal, he has to calculate and inject insulin.
Despite his illness, Mark is doing well in school, attends music school to learn guitar, remains optimistic, and believes that he will be happy in the future.
But Mark's diagnosis carries risks. Fluctuations in blood sugar have already severely impaired his vision. In the future, complications with his kidneys and cardiovascular system are quite likely, and extremely low blood sugar levels can lead to loss of consciousness. Mark's parents are doing everything they can to help him live with his illness. Since two members of the family suffer from this insidious disease, the cost of all the necessary treatment for both of them is extremely high. Sensors are beyond the family's means. The boy's father is asking for help in purchasing them.
