Artem is seven years old. He is his parents' greatest joy and their long-awaited child – a cheerful, sincere, and curious boy who loves discovering the world.
For three years now, Artem and his family have been living by a strict schedule. Artem was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and since then, childhood has felt as though it lost its carefree quality. Constant insulin injections, daily blood sugar monitoring, dietary restrictions, a life of calculations – where every meal, every activity, and even his mood can affect how he feels. And the exhausting sensation of hunger that is so hard to explain to a small child.
This little boy is forced to be strong every single day. Accepting the new rules was very hard for him. Pain, fear, and tears – but he is strong. He tries, he endures, and he learns to live with it day by day. He often asks: "Mum, why me?". And there is no answer that can ease that pain. Artem has to bear the pain, understand things that are sometimes difficult even for adults, and live under constant control.
His parents do everything they can so that Artem grows up happy and feels like an ordinary child. But without modern glucose monitoring tools – sensors – this is incredibly difficult. Sharp fluctuations in blood sugar, the fear of dangerous nighttime drops, constant anxiety – this is the reality the family lives in.
Continuous glucose monitoring sensors could significantly improve Artem's life: reducing the pain of frequent finger pricks, helping to keep his condition under control, and giving his parents greater peace of mind. Sadly, the family does not have the financial means to provide them consistently.
Together, we can help make his life a little easier.
