7-year-old Gleb was born with a rare congenital pathology – syndactyly of both hands. As of today, he has already undergone 6 surgeries, and another one is expected this year. But surgeries are not enough – the boy needs social rehabilitation to develop his motor and everyday skills. That is why we are launching a fundraising campaign to pay for a course of classes at the "World of Opportunities" inclusive center in the amount of UAH 25,000.
During the first ultrasound, the doctors told the parents that their son would be born with a physical feature: his fingers would be fused. This is called syndactyly, a condition in which the fingers do not separate in the womb. Gleb has fused fingers on both hands. This makes it difficult for him to do the simplest things – hold a spoon, a pencil, get dressed, play with LEGO. But Gleb tries very hard. And despite everything, he is developing, learning, discovering himself and the world!
As of today, the boy has already undergone 6 surgeries, and one more planned operation is ahead. But after each surgical stage, he needs quality rehabilitation to learn how to use his hands, develop motor skills, social skills and adapt to life in a normal environment.
Gleb is an extremely smart and bright boy. He went to school at the age of 6 and has already become one of the most successful in his class. He loves music, singing and especially technology. The greatest pleasure for him is building LEGO models: trams, buses, subways – he builds them for hours with instructions, like a real engineer.
That is why visiting the "World of Opportunities" inclusive center was a real breakthrough for Gleb: specialists work with him here, he learns, plays with children who understand him, and, most importantly, feels confident.
“It is very important for me, as a mother, to see that Gleb is not only learning but also enjoying life. At the Center, he opens up, learns to trust and be part of the team. This is extremely valuable,” says Victoria, Gleb's mother.
