Maksym is only 13 years old, yet he grew up early. He is a courageous, responsible, strong, and brave boy who has learned to overcome difficulties at his age in a way that not every adult could.
He grew up as an energetic, curious, slightly stubborn boy. He loved running, playing football, building his own little worlds with construction sets, and dreaming of big adventures.
When Maksym was seven years old, the family's life was divided into "before" and "after."
The boy began asking for water very frequently. He constantly carried a bottle of water with him, filling it again and again. The child who previously could not sit still suddenly became lethargic, exhausted, and tired. He began asking for food more often – in small portions, but constantly. And at the same time he began to lose weight. Not dramatically, but noticeably.
It was then that his mother's heart tightened, as she knew someone among her acquaintances who had diabetes. The symptoms were familiar to her. Maksym and his mother immediately went to check his glucose level. The result was shocking. The glucometer showed critically high blood sugar.
What followed was an ambulance and intensive care. Then the doctor's words, like a verdict: "Type 1 diabetes."
The first days were the hardest. Injections. Tears. Sleepless nights. And the most painful question: "Why me, mum?".
The family learned together to live in a new way. Every day became a small victory. Every stable reading – a true celebration. Every smile – proof that life had not ended. It had simply become different.
Today Maksym can independently count bread units. He reminds others himself about blood sugar checks and takes his health seriously – but the boy needs continuous monitoring sensors. They will help him avoid at least the painful finger pricks and give his fingers time to recover. And most importantly – they are the chance for continuous diabetes management.
The family is reaching out with a request for help in providing Maksym with continuous monitoring. Every contribution matters and brings this boy closer to a safe life.
