“My name is Olena, and I am raising twin girls who were born prematurely. One of my daughters, Daria, has cerebral palsy (spastic diplegia), and a significant part of our lives is connected with rehabilitation and a constant struggle for every small step forward,” says Daria's mother.
After birth, the girl could not breathe on her own, so she spent the first five days of her life on a ventilator, and then on a CPAP machine. Next came intensive care, after which Daria was discharged home.
Time passed, but her mother noticed that Daria was lagging behind her sister in development: at 7 months, she could not hold her head up or roll over, and at 1 year and 3 months, she was diagnosed with spastic diplegia. Now the girl is 3 years old, and she still cannot stand or walk on her own, has delayed psycho-speech development, but is already walking, holding her hand, and pronouncing simple individual words.
Thanks to timely treatment and ongoing rehabilitation, the girl's coordination is improving, her spasticity is decreasing, and she is becoming more focused. But we cannot stop now, because rehabilitation is the key to development. That is why we are asking for your support!
