Nobody wants to be operated by a surgeon who does not see what he or she is doing. But children in the Pediatric Department of Neurosurgery may find themselves in such a situation. All patients with neurological tumors should be operated with an operating microscope but the device available in the department cannot be used because the component that provides illumination broke down. This is a small but expensive component without which the whole system turns into scrap.

The Pediatric Department of Neurosurgery at the Acad. A. P. Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery of the NAMS of Ukraine is the leading medical institution in which the most complicated cases are treated from all regions of the country. Annually about 500 surgeries are performed here and half of them are not possible without a special microscope.

An operating microscope is an equipment which helps the surgeon and his or her assistant see an enlarged view of all the structures of the brain. This device is the doctor’s eyes. The doctor sees in detail WHAT and HOW to remove, how to avoid the blood vessels so that there is no excess blood loss, how not to damage healthy structures of the brain. Any mistake can become fatal or leave the patient without speech, without movements, without sight... Let’s together help doctors save kids!
