Melanochka was born at 28 weeks of pregnancy weighing just 970 grams. Closer to the age of one, the girl was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. As a result of constant training, Melania learned to crawl, sit and stand with support. Now the child is 11 years old. Her bones are growing intensively, but her muscles are not keeping pace. The pelvic misalignment has increased, which has led to shortening of the left leg by 1.5 cm. The subluxation of the left hip joint turned into a dislocation, so the orthopedist recommended urgent surgery.
In accordance with the agreement No. 21 on cooperation between the CO ICF ‘Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace’ and the Charity Operator of the Charity Fund “Pomogayem” dated 31.08.2020 and the additional agreement No. 21.285 dated 16.10.2024, the project ‘Returning Melanka's Hope’ was posted on the dobro.ua website to attract charitable donations to pay for Melania Kuzmina's treatment.
Subsequently, it became necessary to use part of the funds raised on the dobro.ua website to pay for the girl's first surgery and a set of implants. Therefore, according to the letter No. 717 dated 25.11.2024, we received the collected UAH 95,600.00 (ninety-five thousand six hundred hryvnias and 00 kopecks) to the account of the Foundation and continued to collect on the dobro.ua platform.
On 6 December 2024, Melanka underwent her first long-awaited surgery, which lasted 4 hours. The girl tolerated it very well and the doctor was satisfied with the results of the surgery.
On 08.04.2025, thanks to the donors of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace who closed Melanka's collection, we received UAH 122 275.00 (one hundred twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-five hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Foundation's account to pay for the child's treatment and project administration.
On 25 April, the girl underwent a second surgery on her legs. The child tolerated the surgery and anaesthesia well. Melanka is now home and on the road to recovery. She is still on painkillers and needs constant bandages. Her legs are fixed with orthoses, so she cannot sit or stand.
Melanka does not attend school and misses her friends very much. At home, she reads books and watches cartoons.
On 25.05.25, she needs to see a doctor to have the stitches removed and begin rehabilitation. We are convinced: Melanka will cope with everything.
So far, all the funds transferred from the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace have been spent on the child's needs.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help and support!
