Saving VAC-therapy against wounds

Little patients from all over Ukraine, who suffer from most difficult extensive infected wounds are hospitalized in the NSCH "OKHMATDYT". The department of the hospital which treats such patients really needs the apparatus for cleaning wounds using a vacuum – VAC-therapy. Using the apparatus of VAC-therapy shortens the time of wounds-healing and saves children from the daily excruciatingly painful dressings, maintaining their mental health, and sometimes life. The cost of the device is not available for purchase by neither "OKHMATDYT" hospital nor patients's parents. 

We really would like to describe the essence and the benefits of VAC-therapy with ordinary human words, but it turned out that it is impossible. That's why we describe it as it is. But even using the difficult-to-understand medical terms, it is clear that the VAC-therapy apparatus is simply irreplaceable! VAC-therapy provides a closed moist environment, which is a kind of barrier to the development of the inflammatory process. This is a technical device which allows to cure the patient in a comfortable environment in the shortest possible period.

The main goals of this therapy include:

• reduction of swelling at the wound tissue by removing exudate;

• increase of microcirculation in the tissues;

• activation of the process of formation of granulation;

• significant reduction of volume and depth of the wound;

• reduction of possible complications and the number of cases of required surgical intervention.

VAC-therapy is also prescribed in cases where localization of injuries does not allow the use of standard methods of treatment. This is particularly important when the patient is a child.

Rapid healing of wounds as well leads to less pain and discomfort that affects the well-being of the patient. In addition, other methods of treatment of chronic wounds often require at least two daily dressings for the performance of which it is necessary to have special skills to reduce the risk of infection to a minimum. VAC -therapy is a closed system and must be replaced every 48 hours, reducing the risk of infection, as well as reducing the need for materials and specially trained personnel.

Long-awaited, 25 years late, VAC-therapy has finally arrived to Ukraine! The only minus of it for our medical institutions is the cost of the special equipment for this therapy. Therefore, this project was created to raise charitable funds so that soon the apparatus of VAC-therapy appears in the department of purulent surgery of NDSB "OKHMATDET" and delights children of their most quick recovery!
