Solomia Wants to Live

No one doesn’t want to imagine that such a disease may happen and what hurts more is that a little girl who has just started to explore the world and is interested in everything has to be locked at the hospital. No one wants to think about it, no one wants to believe in it. The mother cannot speak about it without tears. Why did it happen to her little angel? But that’s not the worst. What hurts too is that your child may die without medicines you don’t have money to buy.

Solomia’s mother worked as a teacher at the local school and now she is on maternity leave to take care of the girl’s two-year brother. The father is a driver at the state enterprise. After a year of treatment the family spent almost all the money they had. The disease begins as an acute septicemia with shivering, significant fever and general weakness. Often it is accompanied by quinsy, stomatitis, bleeding into the skin with bruises on the body. Without treatment this disease leads to death in a few weeks.

The girl’s legs are is aching, she has fever and loses weight, her body changes, lymph nodes, liver and spleen increase, there may be rash. The child was prescribed antifungal medication the pack of which costs 1646 UAH. Now there is no such medication at the hospital, delivery is expected but nobody knows when. But Solomia’s disease cannot wait, it grows every day and if the girl doesn’t fight it in time, she may lose this battle.

Solomia likes to learn new things but now doesn’t have strength to do it. She helped to take care of her brother, shared everything with him and she missed him very much. “My daughter is a kind, sincere and polite girl who likes everything around, everything is interesting. Why did it happen to her? How can with cope with it?” cries the mother. “I will pray for all of you! Please, don’t turn your back on us. Help to save my little flower!”

It depends on all of us whether Solomia will see the world outside the hospital.
