The hard Veronika’s way

At the 7th month of pregnancy, Veronika's mother was told that her child had a congenital anomaly of the central nervous system and spine. The girl was born at the 38th week of pregnancy and immediately went to the ambulance in "OKHMATDYT" in the neonatal intensive care unit. After a thorough examination of neurosurgeons, Veronika was diagnosed with multiple malformations of the central nervous system and spine, severe internal hydrocephalus and Chiari malformation of the 2nd degree.

The next day the girl was operated on the pathological fixation of the spinal cord was removed. A few days later, the doctors performed another operation to eliminate hydrocephalus – bypass surgery, and later there was treatment for epilepsy. When Veronika was 7 months old, she underwent another operation on the brain, and in January 2020, a shunt was installed.

Now the girl's medical history has been replenished with new diagnoses that prevent her from living a healthy life: Veronika has lower paraperesis and dysfunction of the pelvic organs, dysplasia, deformity of both feet, dislocation of the left hip, partial atrophy of the optic nerve and symptomatic epilepsy.

Now Veronika is 2 years old, and thanks to the girl's timely treatment, she understands the addressed speech, she has chewing, grasping and swallowing reflexes, fine motor skills of her hands. Veronika perceives the world around her by touch and can hold objects in her palms. However, the girl really needs systematic rehabilitation in specialized care centers, without them Veronika will not be able to acquire new skills and develop.
